About Me

Brenden Martin is a student at Northern Arizona University double majoring in strategic communication (BS) with an emphasis in public relations as well as journalism and political science merged with a minor in history.

Brenden works throughout the NAU Media Innovation Center where he is involved in multiple outlets surrounding sports and journalism.

Brenden began as the Sports Editor for The Lumberjack,
NAU’s student-run newspaper,  in spring 2021 where he started as the Assistant Sports Editor before
taking over the lead role. He edited every sports story that was published from March 2021 to May 2022 and wrote many articles there as well, specifically game
coverage of many NAU sporting events. All his stories can be found here.

Brenden was promoted to Managing Editor for The Lumberjack from August to December 2022, where he edited every story published on JackCentral.org, oversaw edits on the weekly print editions and managed workflow and workplace relationships across the editorial board.

Brenden has written for the Arizona Daily Sun, covering Flagstaff High School Football, Flagstaff and Coconino High School women's basketball, the Big Sky Conference's media rights deal with ESPN and more.

Brenden spent a year as a communications intern for NAU Athletics, writing stories and recaps on NAU events as well as writing bios, curating social media content and being the color commentator for the 2022 NAU Volleyball season on ESPN+.

Brenden contributes to Elevated Media, a sports news site made by former and current NAU sports journalism students. Brenden has covered many NASCAR events through this venture, including Championship Weekend at Phoenix Raceway in 2021 and 2022, as well as the inaugural Clash at the LA Coliseum and races at Auto Club Speedway and more.

Brenden has also co-hosted radio shows on KJACK. He co-hosted "The Double-Double" in fall 2020 and “The AXE“ from January 2021 to May 2022. "The Double-Double" is a sports talk radio show surrounding professional sports and “The AXE“ was centered solely around NAU sports.

Brenden has appeared on NAZ Today's "The Overtime" northern Arizona's only sports show. Brenden has reported on the show on the happenings of Coconino County sports at both the high school and collegiate levels.
